unable to read excel file

I have one excel file which could not be opened at all.
It says unable to read file followed by the message illegal operation occured.
I have reinstalled ms office but in vain.,
i have formatted the system and checked. but still the same problem exits,
I have also checked for virus but nothing found init.
I am able to open all the files except this one.
Also the same error comes when it opened from network systems also.

What version of Office are you using??? What was the version of office used to create the Excel file you are trying to open??? How big is the Excel file???

excel file created with office 97 and tried to open with same office 97. size is 6.00mb

Sounds to me like the file is corrupt.
