Any idea how to get a torn/ripped effect without scanning in a torn piece of paper? Any tutorials on the issue would be fine.

Thanks guys.

Did this using the torn edges effect in photoshop 6 took about 10 minutes, but only because I hadn't tried this filter before. Here's the steps I took - you can adapt them for your own needs. Unfortunatley it's a lot of steps - anyone know an eaiser way?

>New file
>fill background (red)
>duplicate layer
>select an area
>fill selection (white)
>select none
>swap background and foreground colors (in this case white is the background, black in the fore)
>filter - sketch - torn edges (it then turns everything around the "paper" black)
>magic wand - tolerance 50 - select black area
>cut
>clean up any stray with the eraser tool.
(Mine could use a little more cleaning up, but you get the idea.)

The best way to get a ripped paper effect, is to rip paper...and scan it. Then crop it accordingly, and set the blending mode to screen or multiply, whatever fits your image.

Cheers.

Just downloaded some brushes from deviantart which are supposed to create the ripped paper effect. Haven't tried them out yet, though. Check out:

Scanning an image an then adjusting with photoshop is the absolute best way.

No matter how hard you try and what filters you try it won't look as good.

This site is a great example of someone scanning notebook paper, cropping it and using it in their website.

He is also a local here on codingforums.com, I think he is lemings or something.

Here is the site..... http://leftjustified.net/about.php
