View Full Version : pages not working in wordpress after modifying permalinks

I've modified the permalinks in wordpress to reflect only the post title for better SEO, when you click on a post it works great it takes you to that post's page, but when you click on a page, it gives you the page not found error.... but if I return the permalinks to its defualt everything works as normal
here's the site

I've clicked all over and can't find this error. Did you put it back to default?
Can you post the before and after of what you are doing that causes this error?
that's my structure for reference

yes I chaged it back b/c the contact and link pages wasn't working and also when you click at the end of the page to see the remaining post it will take me to some odd website "strange behivior"... anyway here's what I was changing my permalinks to /%postname%/ but when I do that it start doing wired things.... don't know maybe I'm missing something I've had other blogs in the past and I've always done it like this, but never seen that before
I'm putting it back so you can see it acting up

weird. I got it to take me to a 404 once but can't get it to do it again. It actually looks like everything is fine. If you get the behavior again can you record what steps took you there.
Sorry I can't be of more help but I can't get it to happen.

it happens only when you click on the contact or links page or the link at the bottom of the page that says "previous page"
ohh and clear your browser's cache just in case you might not be seen the actual page

when I go to http://pctechtips.org/contact/ it gives the server 404
when I go to http://pctechtips.org/contact (no backslash) it goes to your old contact page.
It looks like going to http://www.pctechtips.org/links.htm and http://www.pctechtips.org/links go to the same place same with the links page. I notice there isn't a http://pctechtips.org/about.htm. Typing that goes to the WP 404. Do have a mod rewrite to add the extension on there if not typed? Thats seems like a possible issue.
You could also try renaming the old Links and Contact pages. If that doesn't do anything maybe contact your host.

thanks a lot.... I deleted the old links and contact page, and it worked, did you check the link at the bottom of the main page that says "previous page" apparently it takes me to some strange site...
