View Full Version : Are there any websites that will let me view how my site looks on a mac?
I use windows at home, and I am making a webpage, but I need to be able to view it on a mac at school. The problem is that I do not have a mac to test it on at home. Is there a website that lets me view how my page would look on a macintosh? There are pages that let me view how it will look on a different browser version, but I need to view it on a mac. Thanx in advance!
Yes, at last there is! All new, they are still trying things out. There is a price tag but it's reasonable.

Oh! OKAY! GREAT! Thanks a bunch! :D :D  :)
I've tried. It's swell! Of course, free would be better. :D

just a nother® suggestion...:O)))
http://www.emulators.com/, its kinda confusing though. You have to go throught sum wierd steps if you dont already own a mac.
An emulator... Seems like I have to own a mac ROM though?

Gemulator actually isn't released; I Googled this quite heavily a while ago, and the word seems to be that it never will be - that PPC emulation on a pc is fundamentally impossible without access to proprietary information ... which apple isn't prepared to divulge.
You can get emulators that can do 68K emulation, but afaik there is no such thing as a mac PPC emulator for windows.
Having said that, since OSX is based on unix, it should be comparatively simple to emulate OSX on a PC, and then run OS9 classic mode inside that. Perhaps it's just a matter of time before someone does it ...

Hi,
I am the developer of BrowserCam at http://www.browsercam.com. Go ahead and try taking screen shots of your website using the service (no charge).
Use the login:
Username: meow
Password: meow
The only catch is that the site will tell you an email will be sent when the order completes, it won't (since you're using my personal account), so you just have to keep pressing refresh until all the captures come in.
Let me know what you think of the service.
--john
PS anyone else is welcome to use the login to try it out. Just send me some feedback at info@browsercam.com or on this message board, anything at all.
Username: meow
Password: meow
Oh, such an honor! :o
I think it's just great! The service is much needed and I find your work impressive. Must have taken a lot of work and time. Good luck with it. ;)

Hey yeah I heard about you guys on the evolt mailing list - in fact I hear nothing but good things :)
So .. er .. how does it work (generically - obviously I'm not asking you for trade secrets) - do you have like, a farm of computers and virtual machines that pull URLs and then generate a screen capture?

Yes, we have a rack of computers and a year's worth of custom code that manages loading/unloading browsers, screen captures, etc.
There are a couple of guys who tried just using rendering engines without the browsers themselves. But we believe that you ultimately have to load the url into a browser and look at it, because that's what your customers do, so that means server farm.

Absolutely - that's always been the failure of software emulation - ultimately what you're really testing is the integrity of the emulator.
I can imagine your network infrasture must be quite something
Thanks a bunch jwitchel! I appreciate it! :) :) ;)
BTW, jwitchel, It works great. Just one downside, u cant scroll down. But other than that, I love it!;)

Hooray! I can see what my site looks like through AOL's image mutilation .. er .. compression algorithms!
Calm acquiescence, I say ...
