I am new to programming and I plan to teach myself the basics of it untill I go to school to study this next year. Untill then what program do you recommend for beginners? I tried Microsoft Visual Basic's although everything I downloaded seemed to not work. So if anyone can provide me with a direct link to a good program it would be much appreciated! Thanks

Here is a link to the VB Express 2008 setup:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/c/3/dc3439e7-5533-4f4c-9ba0-8577685b6e7e/vbsetup.exe

I know VB.net, i have tried C++, people will argue that C++ is a more powerful language to know, which is true, but i find anything that i want to create i have been able to do in VB.net and It is much faster to produce with.

My advice is to use VB.net to get a feel of how programming works(do a few tutorials etc), then if your school require you to use something else go with their advice, as i guess the other people in your class would be learning the same language. This would be a big help as you could help eachother out.
