Having recently read a report that suggested that Ready Boost was a waste of time and as I am just on the verge of upgrading to Vista Ultimate; I wondered if anybody had firm information as to what size to set the cache and if they had any knowledge of Ready Boost and it's real usefulness.
I have a 'thing' about computer speed. I never find that programs or procedures advertised, NOTICEABLY speed up my machine, a Dell XPS420 with 4 gigabytes of RAM and a total of 500 gigabytes of disk space.
Any info welcome.:D
Frank
lol Frank; you want more speed.
I am on 1Gb RAM and 300Gb disk space and it's quite quick.
what does ultimate offer that vista doesn;t?

There is a good Wiki on ready boost here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost
I have a 1GB flash drive that I use ready boost on. Its almost like a paging file, it stores commonly used files on the flash drive and uses those for Vista rather than using the harddrive. Its quicker to access the flash drive than it is the harddrive in the system.
I'm currently using Vista Ultimate. Frank what is your reasoning for wanting to upgrade? I upgraded because I wanted the Vista Media Center. I have a remote for my system so I figured it was worth it. If you don't need Media Center then stick to Business. Media Center and the games are the big difference. The games can be enabled on Vista Business by going to the control panel and adding them through Windows Components.

Frank what is your reasoning for wanting to upgrade?
A friend gave me an unused upgrade, which I have now installed. I didn't use the Business upgrade because I had problems with it previously.
As it happened, the Ultimate upgrade was not such a good idea. The first upgrade instal locked my PC and I had to switch off to get out of it.
The second time the upgrade was barred and I had to make a clean instal. losing my user settings. It seems OK now but I have a salvage job to do. What would I do without Windows? I now have Vista Home premium, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate. That's affluence for you.
Will I ever learn?

It almost seems like
1) You don't quite know how to install Windows or
2) Your computer is a lemon (bad computer) and should be sent back.
I've installed Vista a few times both Ultimate and Business without any issues.

AERO,
I installed the Business upgrade on my other PC, The Ultimate on my new Dell XPS 420 PC which has worked faultlessly up to now.
As to the installation, there was nothing to do but to accept the conditions. It never got to the point where I was asked anything else. It just locked up. The second time round did not allow the upgrade option. Just a clean start. Seems OK now.

Has anyone use an IPod with readyboost? I have 30GB IPodo and want to know if it will make any difference to the speed of processes.
Cheers.
Rafiki.
