I am looking for some help on a site idea that I currently am trying to develop. The site is NOT to copy the following sites,
but to incorporate several features from each to create a social networking type site targeting a very specific market of people.
The site that I am trying to build is kind of a hybird of twitter, pownce with a little twitpic and brightkite mixed in.
The site would need to allow "real time" posting of text, or pictures (via a link like twitpic, not in timeline), via a web page, email or SMS, and eventually a cell phone app(iphone, blackberry, treo app). Yes, I know the monthly cost of the SMS number. :)
This is also just phase one of this project. There are what I would consider a total of 4 phases.
1. the twitter / pownce / twitpic / brightkite function.
2. Video uploading / conversion / posting function. (such as vimeo, youtube, blip.tv of course not to their scale)(video will be added to post via a link, sorta like pictures with twitpic)(video will be accessible on site via timeline or separate video page)
4. Monetize the site. Quick market specific ads dropped in timelines in a very clean presentable way. As well as pre-roll ads to uploaded videos if user chooses / mandatory on others.
3. Live streaming video function. (like ustream.tv)
I have seen Laconica and would consider using it as a base if a developer would recommend it and would want to work with it. If not, that is fine too.
I am also leery of a twitter / Laconica type database or build because of the downtime issues they both seem to have.
Tho, I am not looking at the same volume that twitter gets, so this may not be an issue. (maybe there is a better way to serve the time line info, like a email server? or something?)(donno someone smarter then me will have to make that decision)
I understand that this is a fairly large project and my time frame for the later phases are open. Phase one of the site will need to be up and running within the next couple of weeks.
I am also looking for someone that is willing to give a little honest consulting time on some of the back end / server aspects as well as the coding needs of this project.
I am very willing to pay for the help on this project, but am not 100% sure what the total charges will be, though I do have a target.
Thanks for your time and let me know if you can help!
