I need some advice as to the best way to format this site.
It is as it is wanted visually, but I have used many <br>'s to space the sections.

I know that this is not very good practice although it is OK for the moment. But i would like to get it so that I would not be ashamed to show it to any of my fellow coders.

EDIT: I have now to moved over to divs and for the moment spacer divs also.
Any comments are welcome.

The site is here again! (http://www.exitfegs.co.uk/ANGELA4.html)

Borders added just for development.

Frank;

A few things.

you have this in your code after the person's name:

<p style="text-align: center" class="style2">

style2 has that attribute already assigned so it shouldn't be in your html. And you know it shouldn't be there anyway :p

I would reduce the number of styles you have for the <p> tag. make better use of tags, h1 - h6 for many of them.

you have a style6 yet you don't use it. That can be caused because you have so many styles to manage.

Oh, yeh and for your specific question; don't forget baout padding and margin, so you can do away with the <br /> tags.

Thanks Bazz.

It is a bit left over from the original code. I have removed it and all the style classes none of which are being used..

I am now slowly changing to divs. The visual appearance is what is wanted. Have you any further comments on the code.

It now validates html and css.

No need for the "spacer" divs. Use margins and/or padding on the previous element to get the spacing you want.

Thanks Aero,

I have to do that, but I put myself on the spot using classes for the divs. I think I'll have to have seperate div names for all the divs so that I can add margins to them, unless you have another solution.

I just wanted to get something out fast.

:confused:

Your page has gone so I can't see what stage you are at.

From memory - and even I don't trust it anymore :) all your divs are stcked vertically. SO can you just add padding or margin, to each one so they wil be uniformely spaced out - and use the same class?

The site is here Bazz. (http://www.exitfegs.co.uk/ANGELA1.html)

I have now finished it apart from minor adjustments to suit the lady. It actually validates now. Also it is easy to modify and amend. Separate 'Light.css' stylesheet.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I know that there are lot of space. It is as the Lady wanted.

It would have been better off as separate pages...

I have already told the lady that. I don't know why she wanted it this way, but she seems quite happy with it.

If you have any suggestions, I will produce such a copy for myself in the hope that I can show her and maybe convince her. It looks as if I am stuck with this project for the foreseeable future. I don't know what I did to deserve this.

Many thanks for all your helpful advice. It helped me to get my mind in some sort of order and see the wood from the trees.

I might even become a coder one day. Hope springs eternal, or so they say. Don't hold your breath.

well, she is being very hurtful and inconsiderate towards my pet mouse. It has to turn its wee wheel far to much for me to be able to see the whole page.

If she doesn't consider expert advice (from Aero), then, maybe, she will think of my wee mouse puffing and squeaking away in pain :D

I'm sure her heart will bleed.

I am going to get a sensible version ready in the hope that I can convince her. I'm not sure that I know quite the best way to go about it, but I am good at perseverance, even if I am laughable at coding.

Frank

VIP, I have altered the css to your shorthand version. Works a treat..
