Hello everybody,
I'm having a problem that I've wondered for a while. I want to inquire if there will be a significant / noticeable change in system performance for changing an sempron 2600+ cpu to athlon xp 3000+. Will this be worthy to let it a go?
Many thanks

For most purposes, probably not a noticeable difference. Personally, I'd overclock the one you have if you are looking for a little more juice out of it. A small upgrade like that just doesn't seem worth it to me, but that is of course a personal preference.

Now that's a performance enhancement! Get your computer a wig!!! What would we do without spam?
EDIT: They deleted the spam message! I was going to buy a wig too!

Hi Brad,
Many thanks for your suggestion and it seems to be the most feasible and cost effective solution. I'll let it a go and see what I can get! Thanks

Athlons are great overclocklers(while your mobo lets you), you may wanna give that a try.

Difference between an Sempron & Athlon is the cutted Cache. Basicly the same chip, but with half the cache ;) An Athlon is in theory better. But it depends on the type of applications used. You might want to have Windows re-analyze your CPU, TweakXP pro allows this.

Many thanks for all of your help and suggestions! I did overclock my Sempron a bit but not much due to my mobo fsb limitations.

There is a little difference between the single core processors. There is a BIG difference from moving from a 500Mhz or 1Ghz to a 2.5Ghz or 3Ghz.
If you want a difference from a 2.5Ghz/3Ghz you would possibly need to overclock your pc by a great deal. Or save time buy a Core Duo or Quadcore.

Hello everyone,
I did try to squeeze a bit from my cpu by clocking it higher and it works! But the cpu temperature has risen for quite a bit 56-59C. Could I know if my cpu temp is too high or it's still consider tolerable. I should make my apology that I have made a mistake that my cpu is a sempron 2500+ instead of 2600+ as before said. Thank you all very much.
Kind regards
Newbie
