UK WordPress users - WordCamp UK 2008 conference 19-20th July

I just thought that UK WordPress users would be interested to know that the UK's first WordCamp (http://uk.wordcamp.org/) is on the Saturday 19th to Sunday 20th of July 2008.

This is the first UK conference for users of WordPress - the leading web-based publishing platform on the internet, also recently voted best content management system by .Net magazine.

Attendees will include a unique mix of content creators, creatives and developers from around the UK. The event will feature presentations from a number of seasoned WordPress developers and bloggers, combined with lively debate. Many people from the UK WordPress community are committing their time and resources at no cost to make this an unforgettable event.

I hope you don't see it as a spam post - I was simply letting your members know that this event is going ahead! It's strictly non-profit and is a big event for the UK WordPress community (as it is the first WordCamp in the UK!).

I certainly considered it a worthy 'news' section post - and has been the subject of a hot bit of debate around our 'real' watercooler about this!!

I feel I should justify the cost a little. The ticket price includes admission over the two days, and a goodie bag including a number of items, which in the end will probably be near the ticket price value. This is currently being put together by sponsors, but provisionally includes a WordPress T-shirt, a 1gig memory stick, a special hosting package offer including a free domain name and a whole bunch of other stuff (subject to change).

The venue is very nice (and had to be paid for of-course!), in addition to which there will also be a number of prizes at the conference, awarded through The Humphry Awards (http://the-humphrey-awards.co.uk/), put together to recognise UK WordPress bloggers and developers. There is still time to enter The Humphries!

To backup WordCamp UK, the WordCamp UK blog (http://wordcampuk.wp-cms.com/) has now been launched (we couldn't have a WordPress event without a central blog now, could we!!).

Cheers Evo - we are just trying to get everyone involved, it would be a shame if any UK WordPress developers missed out on this!
