I have three domains and a single (shared) hosting.
Let's name the domains domain1, domain2 and domain3, with domain3 being the one that's already connected to the hosting.
Now each one must be a separate site, appearing so for visitors and searchengines, but all hosted on the same location.
I guess I need to create the subdomains domain1.domain3.tld and domain2.domain3.tld and let the actual domains domain1 and domain2 direct to their subdomains on the domain3 hosting by using a frameset. Will this be seen as individual sites by searchengines, or will it harm the ranking (I know that having multiple domains to the same site is bad). If this is not the good way to do it, then am I forced to have a hosting per domain or is there any other way?

when you say "different sites" do you mean just different URLs or different content?
from what i understand, google doesnt like different domains with the same content. I think if you are just using aliases and do a permanent forward, it would work better for google, but you are not guaranteed which or if a domain will actually show up in the rankings, usually it'll be the one that is most relevant to the served content or easiest to remember for users.

Each domain should have unique content. Duplicate content on different domains will be ignored. If I were you, I would shoot for the best content on one domain and create unique content on the others that have backlinks with good link text that point back to the first domain.

Good luck!

Shared hosting is simply that, your site is on the same server with dozens of other sites. The domain name points to a specific folder on the server. Now what you are doing is taking your account and further dividing it. So as long as the domain names are pointing to the folders, I can't see any real problems with what you are doing. So if you have three sites, one about cats, one about dogs, and the last about skunks, and they all have a different domain, it will essentially treat it like a unique site just like the rest.

If someone else knows more about this please weigh in, but shared hosting is essentially the same concept. You are just further dividing an account right?

I see what Jeremy is saying. If you are trying to host three unique sites on the same shared hosting plan or server, then it's no big deal. I do that all the time.

Note that, by using framesets, your primary site will be crawled by search engines correctly, and the others that appear in a separate frame will only be crawled for whatever page is in that frame. In other words, the referring frame pages will not have any internal linking, so there may be nothing to crawl within their domain.

Hope that helps.

Here is something to keep in mind while creating subdomains. If you use a WHM control panel to create a subdomain then the subdomain will be treated as if it were a full domain. It will be given its own listing on the domain name servers (something that a subdomain created through a normal cpanel doesn't usually get). It also will get its own cpanel with all its own controls (stats, ftp, database, etc.). When done this way the search engines are (somewhat) forced to see it as its own domain, having nothing in common with the "real" domain from which it is created. It does make a difference!
