View Full Version : Should I continue this effect on my pages?
Hello, I was wondering if I should continue doing this:
on all my pages, linking to subpages. The downloads page also uses this effect.
What do you think?

You mean the effect that it asks EVERY CLICK to authenticate, but when I cancel lets me go anyways?
Huh? What do you mean? Can you post a screenshot for me?
And the effect is the buttons that say 'Gaming' 'Fansites' etc..

I have contacted my host, and they will be taking it off in a few minutes, their site has one of those in place.
Their link, www.missingstudios.com/v6 needs one of those.
To conclude, they are taking it off.
Thanks for bringing this point up.

Yes its gone.
I'm assuming you are asking if you should keep the boxes with the fading effects as links?
Its a nice effect but lets consider a couple things. After being rolled over, they fade so much into the background they are almost impossible to read again. So after the fadeOut commands, don't let it go so light. I think its nice, and fits the site look/feel. However you don't have any alternative text for you images...tisk tisk. You need that in case they don't load or aren't loaded by a screen reader.
Alt text has been fixed on the Downloads page, now doing tutorials.
The opacity after each iteration has been risen to 0.4
Any better? :)
I think the JS is overwriting the alt text.

I would have it reset to the original opacity.
But 0.4 is the origional opacity.

I see now, cache kept the old settings I guess. Yes thats best. And I don't know about the alt issue, but they are working for me.
Hm.. Thanks for working with me on this issue anyway.
Ok, now some people have brought up that the 0.4 opacity is causing the button to fade away into nothing.
Anyone experiencing this problem?

Under the tutorials section, the four image links are visible at first at a 0.4 opacity. When you hover over an image link, it brightens to 1.0, but as soon as you leave the image, it fades to 0 and cannot be seen anymore. If you hover back over the area it used to be, it'll come back to 1.0 but then fade to 0 again after you leave it.
Thanks for your reply.
I have absolutely no understanding of JS.
So I was wondering if someone could quickly fix this error.

In your JS fader script, change:
What's happening is that when fading up and down, it adds and subtracts by 0.4 each time and ends up going above and below the max and base opacities before the script realizes it since 0.4 doesn't go up to 1.0 starting from your base in even increments. The script even suggests 0.1 or 0.2, so you should always stick to the recommendations unless you know what you're doing.
Thanks for that :)
Is this any better?
But what will happen, is that I get complaints that it gets too fady in FF.

I agree, it does fade out too much.
well I am not familiar with the 1.0, 0.4 measurement but, in FF2, in 'default' state, the images are I think (as said), 0.4. They intensify to perhaps 1.0 with mouseover. Using those two measurements then when onmouseout, it drops to a relative 0.2. Still visible, but more faded than the default shade/intensity.
Okeay, problem should be fixed. :O)
