I'm designing a website for a nightclub at the moment and was wondering what I should quote.

- Fully custom designed in Photoshop and 2 small image slideshow presentations created in Flash. (I'd like to think I'm a pretty decent designer)
- 9 Pages including home page (about, calendar, gallery, menu, music, events etc.)
- Coded using XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS

What is the site worth? (in US$/€/whatever)

You should estimate the amount of time involved and calculate based on that (your hourly rate). At least that’s how I do it.
It all depends on your professionalism but if you’re designing and developing the site for a high income business (and I assume that a night club isn’t quite a non-profit organization) then I would at least charge €2000, most likely more.

I don't really have a set time though, I take as long as I want to take. Lets just say I'm not the most efficient worker, sometimes it will take me 20 minutes to design a site in Photoshop, sometimes days. Thats not even the coding.

Should I just stick with a price I think is best?

Wow, €2000 for such a site? I charged €250 for my last site of the same theme, honestly. And it was of a high design calibre (visually. It was coded in poor HTML though but it looked good, I've since learned CSS). I guess things are more expensive in Europe...

Thanks for the help.

That's the problem with asking what value such work has - the value varies widely from locale to locale. For example, in the US the cost for such a site could vary by several thousand dollars depending on locale.

Regardless of whether you actually charge by the hour or not, VIPStephan's advise is sound. If you're doing this professionally, you need to estimate the amount of time / effort you are putting into a project and determine how much that time/effort is worth to you. Early on, your estimates won't be terribly accurate, but that will improve as your experience grows.

Also think about what you will do about things like the gallery and music pages. Perhaps you could make them, or you could find scripts, or you could invest a few bucks into purchasing some awesome scripts and be done with it. Think about ways to cut your time but still maximize your profit.

A nightclub is probably a higher profile client which probably exists in a more expensive locale. Since I live in the boondocks, there aren't even clubs within 50 miles, a $250 site is legitimate if they are from here. If I built for someone in or near Chicago, a $2,500 site is more legitimate. Know your clients, and don't undercut yourself. Worst thing is they tell you its too much and then you have to negotiate.
