Just looking for feedback on whether I should keep the Archive section of the forum going. It's turned out harder for the mods and I to move useful/faq worthy threads on a consistent basis to that section, not to say we can't try and get back on some rhythm again.
Please share your thoughts on the fundamental usefulness (or lack of) of the archive, and whether it should be scrapped.

You mean the "old forum posts and archive" ? Can't say I ever really look at it; maybe twice since we moved.

No. George is referring to the FAQ's and most useful thread archive

Personally I would just get rid of it. It's difficult to find threads to highlight that should go in there. Some threads get off topic or have multiple questions going on in the same thread or are just so diluted from the original topic that it would probably confuse rather than be useful or be considered a FAQ.

delete it. I just noticed that it exists, so it probably isn't very vital for the forum (or for me, at least;)).
btw, the older posts are still purgued periodically like in the old forum? It will be a pity, specially for the "Post a Javascript" section...

I would delete it if it is not getting much use. Unfortunately most people who need it don't bother to use it. They would rather post the question and hope for an answer rather than take the time to search for it.

i agree, most people wont bother to use it anyway
plus, you have to go through that extra step of telling the forum to show ALL posts because alot of the additions are old.
its a good idea, but like the above stated, the topics of a thread dont always reflect the content in the thread.
you can always search ...

Honestly, I have been in the archives only once since they were made, and that was because I just realised that it was new there...
But, I do think that it is useful, and threads within there will also come up in searches, so I don't understand why it can't stay.
Nevertheless, how many people actually search? Not a lot, seeing as there are often repetitive questions that come out.
I say leave it, it is not really doing harm.

i think it should be moved and sub forums should be made for the retrespective part so in the ASP forum the SUB forum (FAQ etc.) is shown in the top like the javascript section is with dynamic drive and DOM.

But it's almost empty or am I missing something?

I like this idea, keeps the usefull threads together with the actual forum. Also, too much "stickies" at the top of the forum is a bit annoying. If they can be put into the sub-forum, there will be one link only at the top. Easier to notice, maybe people will use it before they post their question
Thanks guys. I've decided to remove the archive, even though theoritically it could still be very useful. I just don't foresee the mods and I moving threads on a consistent basis.
I've emptied out the archive already, and will delete the category itself soon.
