As I said in a different post I JUST installed linux (xubuntu to be exact) and I got this calendar called orage that came with it, I like it from what I've seen but every time I restart the calendar and the preferences window both pop up on my desktop. I've looked through the preferences and don't see anything that will prevent that, it's not in my "Auto started aps" and I don't have auto save sessions on. I can't think of anything else to try short of uninstalling it and I don't want to do that because I do actually like it. Can anyone help? :D You guys are the best!

orage is for xfce not gnome, I don't know if work with gnome but you can try to fix dependeces if is a install problem:

apt-get build-dep orage

PS: I use debian not ....buntu, but all this distro are debian based.

Hmm ... well, I'd rather just deal with turning it off when I log on than destroy it on accident ... so thanks anyway. Oh, and I did some looking around, I don't have gnome ... (all the gnome apps I had confused me. I'm new to linux completely) So, good news? Or no ... oh well, I can deal with it.

there are few desktops, most of distro come with gnome or kde as default. The installing process is very easy if you use some specific tools. For beginers I thing the best tool is synaptic, is a front end for apt.
The differences between distros are not so big, usally the default installed packages and some specific configuration.
because of that I think you can use this:

and a general resource is this:
