Just a few questions regarding Mysql set-up

Hello Community I have a quick question regarding installing Mysql. I have installed Mysql and chose the Transactional Database Only. When I try to install the same forum and flashchat that I had when I used a hosting company I don't end up with the same results. I get pages full of jibberish and don't understand why. Have I chose the wrong type of install and should I of chosen the Multifunctional Database Installation ? Also When I used a hosting company I had a cpanel to use to do everything like CHMOD files and folders, How do I do that with my own set up ? I have Apache with PHP & Mysql running on the same computer that I work on to edit my files that will eventually be my site so no need to FTP files to the server like when I used the host or am I wrong ? Also when I used the host there wasn't any databases there to begin with and I have noticed there are with the Mysql I have installed ? there are db mysql and db information schema what are these for ? Sorry for the long post I appreciate any feedback and thanks again in advance.

I'm guessing right here because of your other question about php_pgsql.dll, so bear that in mind. You're using unix files and windows doesn't understand their linefeeds. Try converting the files first and try it again. Chmod doesn't work in windows. And the two tables are standard. Don't touch them!!!.
If you want easy management try a tool like heidisql.
