Do you rememeber the old command line prompts that had a blinking square where the typing cursor was. Well I want a flash effect where text is being typed real time on a flash .SWF with the prompt described above. Sort of like a misson control sci fci intro to a scene. Any thing out there I can use instead of coding this myself?

I have an idea, but I can't find any code for it.

I'm thinking that if you use a mono-space font, that you can measure the length of the string inputted. So make a listener for keystrokes and then recalculate the string length. Then multiply that by the number of pixels each character is to get the proper distance from the origin.

You would want to make sure to embed a font with this, but I think that would be a good way to go about it.

Cool, what if I wanted to have the flash type out preprogammed text one character every 200ms?

Here is a tutorial on automatic type writing.
