Unable to make shortcut to my site. When I right click the desktop and select new shortcut, I insert my url into the S/C wizard and it refuses it. Says it can't be found. As I already have a shortcut to another page on my site, I cannot understand it. Vista Home Premium, fully up to date.
Any ideas.

Have you attached the http protocol in front?
Basically, you should use http://exitfegs.co.uk/ as opposed to exitfegs.co.uk.

Yes, This is what I have in one that works - http://www.exitfegs.co.uk/
Cut and paste into a fresh S/C is not accepted no matter what I do.
http://exitfegs.co.uk/ doesn't work either.
The wizard produces a different type of format than previously too.
Most peculiqueer.

Frank maybe I don't understand but, when you visit your page, have you dragged the url from the address bar of your browser to the desktop?
More specifically, in ff drag your equivalent of the cf logo (favicon), you'll see in the address bar (as you read this). in ie, drag the 'e' symbol, when viewing your page.
That's how I put a shortcut on my desktop.

Thanks Bazz.
I do know about that, but what has happened to the normal Desktop facility. It has always worked until now and now will not take a web address, even though it declares that it will!
Frank
Well I can't answer that but having created a shortcut in the way that you want to, on my machine, I find that whilst it works, it shows the ie icon for it even though ff is my default browser and when i click it ff opens

When I call up the shortcut and enter (as it says I may) a web address, it will not accept it and says a. that it does not exist and b. that it is not registered.
It's easier to win the lottery than to get consistent results with Vista.
My other two PC's also have Vista Home Premium and they work fine.
Where's the funny farm. Make room for one more.Eeeehhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, I thought you had reverted to XP, which is what I am running on. I have no experience of vista though my son who has, says it sucks. when I have time, I am going to set up a new box, with linux but I don't know yet what flavour. possibly suse.
but that is of little help to you, unfortunately.

I have a SUSE LINUX 9.1 professional which I don't want.
How can I get it to you. I don't want anything for it. It's free including VAT and P&P.

If you're still looking - save the webpage then open your documents and then drag it to the desktop :)

You could just save a local file which redirects. It would be a pain in IE/Vista, though, as it needs new windows for external content.
& Frank, you on SP1? (:
