I was wondering how much it would cost for a programmer to make a ebay type system for pbguntrader.com. I just want a rough number, not looking to hire just yet. I am working on the layout but I know no PHP.

edit:// We basically need a phpbb mod.

I think we were talking about different things there...

That might explain it more.

I like how in forums the people can talk more. pbguntrader is sorta a spin off of pbnation. They don't want to buy a gun they like to trade guns. EX: gunA for gunB + $25

That isn't as bad as I thought.
It would have to used with phpbb.

Why ?

Just an ebay clone is nothing new. A ebay feature inside a forum is pretty cool. It may sound dumb now but I don't think it will be that bad.

That doesn't explain the use of phpbb

phpbb is free (no license price) and table-free. It also validates.

You are like the 5th person who has told me "Why are you using phpbb?". I don't get what is so bad about it.

Why not just create a custom script without using phpbb... ?

I don't know php. I also see little point in making something that is already done.

You don't need to know php to hire someone and isn't ebay already done ?

I do understand, but you're asking someone to use existing software and add something to it.

Why not just create something from scratch so you're not limited by it?

I made all those images. This is not out. I want to combine a forum with an auction site.

I don't know how to make it from scratch since I don't know php.

Oh my god, you don't know how to make the ebay part either. Is it really that complex?

How would I know? I don't know php so I don't know how hard it is...

All I know is HTML and CSS.

Obviously English is not amongst your known languages

Does anyone else want to do this? Just post a estimate.

twodayslate,

In regards to your request, you would need to be more specific in regards to how dynamic you need this phpBB addon to be, in order to be given a roughly fair estimate or quote.

"An e-bay like system" is a little vague, and can be interpreted different ways.

I think what A.J.'s was trying to make clear to you is that it would probably be easier to just build forum-like features into the custom-made auction site, rather than have to bend an already-made forum around a bunch of auction site features. phpbb was designed to do one thing, and do it well-- the effort it would require to modify and deal with phpbb probably would be more expensive in the long run.

I'd estimate this kind of job (depending on how fancy you wanted it of course) to be anywhere from $1000 to $2000.

@MoganK: I edited the first post to show you a little on what I want. LMK if you are still not understanding.

@Fumigator: Well, I don't know how to make a forum or an auction site so whatever is easier for you guys to code. And cheaper since I don't think the admin can afford it for $1000.

twodayslate,

I just realized that you did update it. Sorry for the confusion.

I personally am not a PHP Developer, but for a system similar to what you're asking for, you'd be given rough estimates of a low $XXX to a mid $XXX range for a less dynamic piece, and a high $XXX to a mid $XXXX range for a more optimal and dynamic piece.

Thanks MorganK.
I was liking the $180 range or lower. I just need the php code, I can do most of the HTML and CSS.
