I work for a local municipality and we are planning on putting our council meeting videos on the web. We are planning on creating a FLV files and stream them. Sort of like Youtube. I know I need some sort of streaming server for that. Or do I? Currently we have our site at Godaddy (Premium package). What are some the best and reputable video streaming hosting service I can use? What do some of the other government or small business using?

You can use a regular hosting account, provided you have plenty of bandwidth. If you aren't expecting to be serving out thousands of views a day, then I would think you would be alright with the bandwidth. I stream videos on my website, so it doesn't require a special service.

So the question is, do you expect lots and lots of views on this? Only if you expect hundreds or thousands of views a day would I think you need to jump to a streaming host. Streaming hosts for Flash Media Server are also pretty costly.

Here's a free Flash Video Player you can
embed directly into your web page:

http://flowplayer.org/

You can customize it for any layout you have.
