But to apply a style like

.masthead {width: 800px; height: 590px;
position: absolute; margin-left: 6px; left: 12&#37;; top: 70px;
background-image:url(http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...e3edited.jpg);
} you have to identify the required element and give a class="masthead"
Read http://www.htmldog.com/guides/cssbeginner/

haha even that is confusing. is that saying that i have to star all my coding again and put it in properly into the html coding?

CSS

.trial {
color:#fff;
}

html

<p class="trial">This is just for example,</p>

The CSS is informing the HTML to print in White,

Also, when having to alter something globally, don't forget the "replace" option in the edit menu of most editors.

Just a wild guess- try this:

<head>
<style type="text/css">

body {
margin-top: 590px;
background: #000000 url(http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p217/Camelous/onedaysmassacre3.jpg) 50&#37; 70px no-repeat;
}

</style>
</head>
