I posted this here as although I am using PHP to execute the COM command, this could be answered by coders from any other language... this could be the wrong forum... hopefully not.

Is there a Linux equivalent to COM? I am trying to use word.application and it works fine if run from my PC... however my hosting is a linux installation... is there a method I can use to achieve the same effect?

Or will it require purchasing hosting on a Windows Server?

If there is a way to do this, I don't mind which coding language is used!

Thanks!

hi!

this seems to be an old post but i ran into the same problem, is there any way i could use PHP and COM in a Linux web host? just wondering if there could be already a solution for this problem.

thanks!

I would find a Unix usenet group to ask that question. It's somewhat bizarre if you could find something like that. COM is a Windows thing and an advanced operating system like 'nix would have no use for it.
