View Full Version : Message Board
Hi, I'm trying to find some type of message board that I can put on my site where the scripting is hosted elsewhere. I don't have php, sql, cgi, etc., availability on the hosting I was given for a school project. The problem is that my site is password protected and so I don't want a message board that you click on a link from my site and go offsite (for example, something like Bravenet). Is there anything out there that would be free and let me do this? I need it to stay onsite because only certain people are given the log in information for them to have access to the site, but if it's offsite I can't guard who can read the posts and join up.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

It can't be onsite because you don't have PHP/MySQL etc.
But it can't be offsite because you can't guard against who reads the posts, etc.
That's going to be sort of tough to do.
You didn't mention your age (adult or youth), but if the school
project was important enough, I would spend a mere $30 to get
a webhost account that HAS all of the scripting features you need, including
a WordPress blog, Joomla, or whatever else you need. That's pretty cheap!
Even x10hosting might be an option. That one is free and they offer PHP.
(not sure of the limitations though):

Siteflip (http://www.siteflip.com/) has a dirt cheap hosting deal (http://www.siteflip.com/cheap-domain-hosting/), that comes at $11.88/annum (99 cents a month).
By the way, if you're looking for a forum (message board is ambiguous, please clarify), you can have a free offsite forum from something like InvisionFree (http://invisionfree.com/) and set it up so that only registered users can see/use it, and you can (probably) set it up so you manually approve users when they register (you activate their accounts).

Without some sort of server side language, its going to be essentially impossible to have a message board onsite.

You could maybe get an external account. As long as, in the admin section of the board, you can limit account logins to a a particular IP address or IP range.
I'm not sure if any free messageboards let you do that but it might be a work around.
