suddenly i lost all sound drivers, can't remember what they were. not even sure if i lost the drivers as device manager said that all devices are working correctly.
i have tried unwiring and re-wiring and restarting pc, tested speakers with other household utilities etc.. they work, im pretty sure its the pc, any body know of decent drivers that should sort this problem out win XP SP2 unsure of sound card.

The trial version is fine. It should show you what sound card you have at which point you can find the drivers. Also is the computer you have one you built yourself or did you buy from a company? If you bought it from a company its likely the drivers are on the company's site.

astra told me it was an intel card,
i have installed some drivers and managed to regain one more of the volume controls

before i didn't have the main one (furthest left).
but still no sound.
(the drivers were realtek ac97)

I've found an app called DriverMax that may be useful. It scans for drivers, it also tries to identify your hardware and recommends drivers.

No unidentified hardware was reported by DriverMax. Sorry, we cannot help you.
and it said i have the latest version installed.
im not sure whats going on here, might have to back up all files that are important and re-install windows. suckage!!

You could use DriverMax to backup your system drivers. Since you never answered my question I'll ask again, was your computer built by yourself or did you buy it from some place?

brought it, not from a company, but a friend. i no longer have contact with him.
(he really ****** me over. got him a job he messed it up nearly getting me sacked!!)
ok got it to the point where i click volume control and it asks me to install a mixer, anybody know of a mixer that is pretty much universal, i did know of a c-media one but cant find it anymore.
