I've been experiencing serious problems from Ipowerweb, and planning to move all DB to Ixweb.
At Ipower, it uses *****.ipowermysql.com as db-host where as at Ixweb, it's mysql8.ixwebhosting.com. IX supports external Db connection. Is there anything else to be considered now? Please let me know.

You might want to investigate how secure the connection would be from the web server to your database server. Generally speaking you wouldn't want all your database transactions to be readable by anyone who intercepted the packets.
So you would want to utilize some sort of secure encrypted connection. Normally I'd say a VPN would work but since these are 3rd party hosts, that is probably not an option.

Thanks oracleguy, but I didn't get your reply completely. Is it a big security risk?
I'd tested it locally, but when I tried at Ipower, it says "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mysql8.ixwebhosting.com' (111)". I'm totally confused.

There are two problems (in addition to making it work). The security issue that oracleguy mentioned and the speed.
When both the client (your web server) and the database server are located at the same host, the data does not leave the privacy of the data center and won't likely be intercepted by anyone monitoring data packets.
If you separate them, all the data, including the database connection username and password and any other information, must travel over the public Internet where it can be intercepted unless sent over a secure, encrypted connection.
Sending the data over the public Internet will slow every thing down for two reasons. The data transfer rate will be limited to the lowest of the two host's available Internet connection speed, which will be lower than what a local data center connection would be and encrypting the data to make it secure will increase the size of the data that must be sent (encrypted data is larger than the un-encrypted version.)
You should only do this if you must. Is there any reason why you don't move the web hosting to the same host where the database is?

Thanks CFMaBiSmAd, that's answering a lot, and points to my other thread How to mirror a site? (http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?t=135508).
I've been facing a serious slowness at Ipowerweb and which posed me to do this, so as to solve the problem partially. Fortunately, today morning, it seems almost OK and they had replied me as their engineers are working on the issue.
It caused a lot of anxiety at my end I was thinking about to mirror(?) a site to solve these type issues in future.

They have been switching over to a new platform at Ipowerweb, which has also caused me some heartaches. If you switch your files, you should just move everything away. That way you don't have to deal with everything they have mentioned. However, once they get things sorted out at Ipower, its 'supposed' to be much better.

Hmm... at present they are not even capable to give a link to the mail server like mail.mydomain.com(I'm in new platform). They informed me that they will give a user friendly link after the migration of all customers. But they don't know how long it'll take to complete(the can't upgrade without the permission from the customer.) So let's hope and then hope again :D

Hi guys.. Now I gets this error randomly (and always at peak times)
Access denied for user 'xxxxx'@'boscgi1404.eigbox.net' (using password: YES)
I don't have any other way than putting an htaccess
DirectoryIndex maintenance.htm index.php index.html index.htm default.html default.htm home.html

Huh? htaccess has NOTHING to do with that error. It means the user name and password you tried to use don't have permission access that mysql server.

There is the real fun(?), that's not an error by my connection string. I use myaccount.ipowermysql.com. Today morning I fired them for the slowness by giving a link to a clone of my site at IXweb.
Then after they have done something and inproved the loading speed. But I get this error randomely . When I press refresh, sometimes the error is getting disappeared and I see the pages. They agree that this error is their fault. So I just changed the defult index page, and incase if someone is getting any other page, he can proceed.
It's 11:55 PM IST and I see the home page by typing **/index.php, where as I'd been getting the error till 10:15 PM. But no way to revert htacces since I can't trust untill they answer my ticket
