Ok, thanks to you guys sort of indirectly I have got on to reading a lot of material and in the last week or two have learnt sooo much about hardware.. (in comparison to several weeks before)

Now my question is, is all this stuff everything I need to build my computer.. (obviously this is just the basics I plan on more than this)?

Case
PSU
Motheboard
Processor
Ram
Hard drive
IDE Cable(s)
Cd-Rom
Floppy drive
Monitor
Speakers
Keyboard
Mouse

With everything in that list I should be able to build a computer that will run? Because that is all I have cataloged for my new computer which I will be buying/assembling in May (Yay!)...???

Also I'm guessing that a serial ATA connection differs to the IDE cable?

You are missing the operating system and a flux capacitor

Ok, I knew that I didn't list the OS.. but what the heck is a flux capacitor?

I mean it sort paints a picture in my head, but that is only because I know a small portion of the english language. :)

Marty McFly says Hi
Back to the Future fan huh?

One gigawatt equals 1,000 MW, one gigawatt-hour represents one hour of electricity consumed at a constant rate of 1 G.

I think you can answer your question from that! ;) ( I know don't bother :) I meant it )

My apologies Spookster. :o

Strangely enough, I saw one on eBay:

One (1) Flux Capacitor - only used a few times
For more info, contact doc_brown@ hotmail.com

^^^ mouse says: don't email this person asking for a flux capacitor; you may pervert space and time in some manner, what with the Doc's timetravelingl ways, and also it could be considered harrassing if it's actually a valid, real person's email address ;)

/hmmm, methinks of way to re-edit thread with my own BTTF jokes...

Remember one of thems cables that go to the back of the power supply, I've never got one with psu... well maybe once or twice but generaly they're not supplied.

You also need thermal compound or a plan (ie either use the thermal pad already on the supplied heatsink or remove it, trying both doesn't work, I've tried...)

I picked up on that only cuz i just got the entire trilogy of back to the future on dvd for xmas.... I hadn't seen those movies in ages. I like how in the first one Doc says "I'm sure in 1985 platonium is available at every corner drug store but in 1955 it is a little hard to come by." And how Doc asks why marty keeps saying "heavy"

:D

But yeah, you are missing a network card, video card, and sound card.

And yes, serial ata is diffrent than standard ide. serial ata is supposed to replace conventional ide soon. Thats why you see it on mobos now days.
