Hi.. i am rick and have a question...

you all know I am only sort of an SEO person. I don't quite get all the algorhythm stuff, but for the most part have been able to get the pages I wanted ranked well, ranked well. Lately it's just seemed harder and harder to move up. I move up for a few days and think I'm getting some where and then I am right back down. Now, what I have noticed is a lot of our stuff that I worked on a long time ago seems to have budged more recently. So that leads me to ask, is google weighing in age of incoming links more now than they used to? It may just be that I am going after more competitive terms, but I don't know. Everything seems harder to get to budge lately.

Thanx in advance...

Well in my experiences with SEO, its only certain that the major search engines are always changing their methods of ranking so that people don't exploit its weaknesses too much. I don't honestly believe anyone really knows outside of Google, and if they do they are probably charging people big bucks for their services.

In SEO, there are no guarantees, so the best thing to do is to do research on the latest techniques, look at blogs, and just keep doing white hat SEO tactics.

And yes, Google is always changing.

I don't honestly believe anyone really knows inside of Google, yahoo or msn, too, :)
the reason is very simple, you allready point on it:
always changing their methods of ranking so that people don't exploit its weaknesses
any way the se is moving to the semantic, google and yahoo invest a lot of money in this.
That could mean, no seo? :)
I hope at least means no blackhat seo.

agree with you, with one exception: blogs could be used for evaluate trends, research but for linking is possible to be evaluated as "spam". :)

best regards
