View Full Version : Printable CSS
I've been having trouble making a newsletter for one of my boss's clients printable.
Here is the basic HTML file:http://www.target3.com/VUANCE_NEWS/Vuance_Newsletter_V3.html
Now, I'm FAR from a pro with HTML and I'm just getting accustomed to using CSS.
I've looked through MANY online resources on how to make printable pages using CSS stylesheets, and I've had no luck. The main problem I'm having is the fact that the table on the right gets mostly blocked out by the one on the left. I don't know how to disable tables in the print version. I've tried setting them to a no print class that I defined as invisible and that did nothing.
Any suggestions???
I appreciate any and all help.
Thanks!
-Eugene

This should help:
http://webdesign.about.com/cs/css/a/aa042103a.htm
I've looked at that one and wasn't able to get it to work properly.
My main issue is that the table on the right still gets cut off even when I give it the class "print".

it can't be rendered properly if you have invalid markup, is like a foreing language.
fix html first, from top to bottom:
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.target3.com%2FVUANCE_NEWS%2FVuance_Newsletter_V3.html
best regards
Just fixed up the HTML. Hmm...I had thought that "Height" was a valid element for: <table>
Was it deprecated or something???
Anyway, now it's done.
Any further suggestions for making it printable?
Thanks!

the links provided by effpeetee and manogamez can help you further, following the step, in fact in your case checking what you miss :)
could be easy also to use firefox with webdeveloper extension, because you could enable "display css by media type" -> print and see how your page look, :)
also is a better idea to put your css in a external file and link it as media print.
best regards
I've been trying for the past 2 hours to get this done...it's still not working.
I can remove whatever I need to.
The main problem still lies in the Tables not coming up properly.
I don't think I managed to implement the page-break property correctly...
Is there a way to simply disable the Tables and have only paragraphs print out left to right?

I DO appreciate the assistance in validating though!!! As well as the suggestion to link to an outside stylesheet!

I've been trying for the past 2 hours to get this done...it's still not working.
I can remove whatever I need to.
The main problem still lies in the Tables not coming up properly.
I don't think I managed to implement the page-break property correctly...
the layout iis with table and the main problem is how to rewrite the page to make less change.
- make a copy of the page for backup
- replace the main table with a div, each his tr also with div, with td must deal in another way to keep the same layout
html is valid, to css you miss a ':'
