I have just ordered a new PC, and I am wondering; what is the best way to move the data from my old PC to the new one.

Ideas will be welcome.:D

If you have working OS in both, then just unplug HD from one of them and connect to other without any master-slave conflicts.

Unfortunately they have different interfaces. My existing one is SATA. The new one is IDE. One of the reasons that I insisted on IDE for the new one, is that I have six previous IDE drives that I want to get data from. They will be easy, but the difficulty is with the present PC. I think I need a cable solution.

There is a cable that was made for people to transfer their files to their new vista system though its not cheap and I don't know if they sell it in the UK.

I might could be coerced into mailing you the solution (for temporary use) in exchange for a small deposit, to make sure I get it back. ;)

Frank, you going to have Vista in your new pc??

Maybe you want to chat to your local Maplins. They have loads of stuff that may be of use. I had to do something similar a while ago, though from a laptop to a desktop, and they had the cable I needed when all other options and my legs, were exhausted . (ps I don't work for maplins lol).

Thanks for the offer, but it is only £25.00 so I have ordered one.
It's the sort of thing that I might need again.

Yes, I know. But what else. One must move with the times and it works well on my Laptop.
Fingers crossed.

That's ok, because my "solution" is the guts of a Western Digital MyBook USB drive. ;) (Long story)

As for me, a good solution to transfer different information from one computer to another, when they are both hooked up to a network, is to use special programs that offer a simple way to establish a remote connection between two computers.
Using such programs, you can copy, move, synchronize, delete files and folders from or to a remote computer. I use PC File Transfer (http://http://www.pc-file-transfer.com/).
