This sounds like a pretty good idea to me...I (perhaps a little tentatively) second the motion!

-----------

Later edit:

Wait a second. I suppose that CF could have a wiki associated with it...but why create a new one. The idea is that you have already searched the internet through a search engine for your problem, and you come to the forum because your looking for help. There are already javascript wikias out there (albeit not very big ones) but then consider the sheer thousands of javascvript-devoted sites. We don't need another, so i withdraw my support.

We used to have a blog created by CodingForums but there wasn't enough traffic for it to keep it alive.

What yes there are plenty of wikis for javascript , HTML, php but what about one for all of them and what about one that users can post on to and then provide links in there post to help E.G
Some one askes how do i use the While in php not in CF or in Wiki
So some one that knows how to do it gose to Wiki Post a guild about it
then posts link to wiki on the site that way when some one needs it again they can search the wiki and find it

The forum works the same way. You create a thread about your php question, someone posts the solution. Then later if someone has the same question, they can search the forum and find the solution. That is one of the reasons starting a thread with a bad title (e.g. "I need help") will get you an infraction, it makes it harder to read through the search results.

yeah but one problem do a search for php how menny threads come up lol a wiki will take you to an overview of the php so if ur a newby and dont know what it is you can learn and then move into the more advanced secotions of Php so we can create a proper teaching sevice so school / College / Uni students alike can read and learn insted of tryin to get told how to do it i am trying to create a search plugin for the php.net site so you can search for functions and there uses aswell in the php.net site

A wiki and a messageboard have two very different purposes. A wiki is primarily for writing articles about various topics. A message board is primarily for discussion. Both can be considered knowlegbases. The very popular wikipedia already contains a section on PHP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHP And i'm sure it contains articles on all the various topics of web development. I don't see how creating one for codingforums would be all that beneficial. It would just be duplicating the efforts done on wikipedia.

If you are doing a search for the word PHP in our forums then you haven't come here to ask a specific question. These message boards are for just that...asking specific questions on topics and discussing them in detail if need be. If you want to learn about PHP then go to the PHP manual on the PHP site or go to wikipedia where a PHP section already exists. Or google the word PHP. You can still learn plenty in our forums. We also usually include sticky threads at the top of each forum that contains links to various place to learn more about that topic. Then if you have questions about that topic you can create a thread and discuss it.

well that is what i am sayin but i think that the wiki would be a good addition as i am trying to add data into the wiki so that it starts to become a good knolagebase and i agree with they are differnt but they work togeather verry verry well allowing users to learn and then create witch would create a powerfull users support system that can teach if they then have any questions they can post them onto the forums i have now created the menu system but i am About to create more to allow users to request for new codes to be added to the menus and then i am going to right a guide on how to create a php login system even if this is not suported to the codingforums i would like to say it will stay open if people would like to start populating the wiki please do

And ignore the fact that there is already a widely used wiki site that contains information on the various web development related topics?

Or are you trying to say create a wiki oriented towards tutorials on how to create or do specific things within the different areas of web development?
