Well, influenced by several posts here, and for the sake of stepping into compatibility issues, i spent hours downloading mozilla 1.3 with a modem at speed 3kb/s.
Aha! I thought. At last I can use this terrific, standards-compliant browser.
So I installed it and started it. After ages it said "the connection was refused when attempting to contact mozilla.org". Fine, I thought. Site's down. Let's try Yahoo. Which, after several minutes (during which I opened and checked my new mails using IE), said "The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.yahoo.com". I tried this other site that normally takes almost no time to load as it's almost text-only. That didn't come either...

SO, is there some settings I should be fixing up?
I certainly hope all the time I spent downloading mozilla wasn't a waste.

Mozilla's a nice browser, particularly like the way you can open new tabs OR new windows.

Moz is a fine browser, but I prefer Opera 7 B2. Tabbed browsing kills auto popups etc.

I downloaded both Mozilla and Opera @ 3kb ... long long time.

Only use Moz for testing, seems to go a lot better than Opera and pretty much as good as IE. (not gui wise ;))
