Professional Login System

Hi Guys, im looking for a recomendion/advice. What im looking for is prebuilt login system that i can costomise. I need it for a project, which will involve storing email lists and possibly highly personal messages. Other data would not be so confidential. Has anybody got any recomendations? I dont mind paying, but I dont see this as huge earner, so it needs to be free/cheap.
