unable to play audio cd

I have IBM PC 300gl System with type as 6288-12a.
I am able to play all multimedia files except the CD tracks ie., .cda files.
I tried through winamp, musicmatch,realplayer etc. but all in vain.
I can see visually see the track is running with all timing indications but unable to hear any sound.
what wiil be the problem?

CD Volume muted? maybe using "digital sound"?

Media player plays them for me, I just copy the cd from there and I can listen to them fine then
