Im sorry if this isn't the usual sort of post found in this forum but I was hoping to hear some of your thoughts on this.

Novatech sent me an e-mail this morning with this deal (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/PCspec.html?PC-0336T). What do you think of it?

If you go to detailed specification you can see the the graphics card is some onboard thing, whereas they usually give you something half decent. Although you do get the monitor and speakers which they don't usually sell with their computers.

I'm looking for a pretty cheap computer which I can take to university when the time comes so it doesn't need to be anything special.

What do you guys think?

Unless you specifically requested Novatech to send you offers in the mail then the answer is "No it's not a good deal". Any kind of encouragement to spammers by buying what they are selling only justifies there use of spamming. The only way that spam will be stopped is by EVERYONE refusing to buy products from spammers.

Er, they aren't spamming, that was in a weekly e-mail they send out to people who have brought things from them in the past and requested that they be sent a weekly newsletter type thing.

Since they aren't spamming I guess I'll try to tackle the real question then. All I can suggest is that you look around on the web for similarly configured systems and compare the prices.

I can see that the processor, memory and disk drive are all on the smallish end of the scale for systems these days but that's still quite enough for much of what's done on PCs these days. If you need a lot of raw horsepower or don't really need another system then this couldn't possibly be a good deal but for surfing the web and for most office work that's a pretty good system.

Don't know if that helps but I just upgraded my own system with parts from the high end so I haven't looked into the low end much.

I think a much better machine could be built for similar money.
