Does anyone know of a way to mass validate a local site? I have some sites with many pages and would be great to have some sort of tool that could spider through the site locally and validate the html code.

Anyone have any ideas?

are some package for linux: wdg-html-validator, w3c-markup-validator, w3c-linkchecker but I don't know how they work, one page or batch.

Anyaway with a small script you can make them to validate all site.

I hope this help you.

PS: the package names are for debian distro, I don't know the names for other distro.

EDIT: I don't validate this way, is not efficient, usualy is enough to validate only some pages selected in a way that reflect the state of all pages.

I think Validating one page at a time is the way to go... If you wait until then end and validate all your pages at once you may end up with an over whelming amount of errors...

DreamWeaver can validate locally. I've never used it, till just now...
hmm, not a very good validator. I gave it some obvious errors and it returned "No errors or warnings found" every time.

Goto W3c and download the source for their validator (http://validator.w3.org/source/), then run it locally on your pages.

But, check the suggestion about validating in my sig below. Like srule_ has said, validating as you go makes a lot more sense.
