webalizer and Awstats consuming too much CPU load

hello,
my web host provides webalizer and awstats.

I was analyzing cpu exceeded logs and found that webalizer and Awstats are consuming too much CPU load.

Mon Jan 7 00:36:47 2008: used 4.87 seconds of cpu time for /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/awstats.pl

Mon Jan 7 00:36:52 2008: used 3.38 seconds of cpu time for /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/awstats.pl

While all the other processes in my site consume very less cpu time of below 0.05 seconds, awstats is consuming too much time.

I have disabled Awstats.

Is Webalizer better than awstats?

My host provides raw access logs, I dont know how to use it to analyze stats. Is this a better alternative to webalizer and Awstats?

Which program do you use to analyse logs?

I need detailed analysis of logs. Please suggest me some program that doesn't consume much CPU load.

Google Analytics, it uses 0% of your cpu.

Will it also inform me about the bots, crawlers etc.. that access my site?
And will it show stats about sites that access files on my server? ( like webalizer)

It wont tell you about bots, i dont find knowing what bots that are crawling my important. I just looked at my awstats and Webalizer (because i dont use them and i forgot what they do) and analytics does everything (except the bots and a few other little thing i guess) that they do but more advanced.

But I would like to know information about all the sites that access files on my server. I think google analytics only shows the stats of the visitors of pages of my sites.

Well it shows the refer site of the visitors. But if you have cpanel i think "Latest Visitors Stats" may show you what you want... or the same thing. im not sure.

I use awstat from a long period of time, AFAIK it collect and process all the data once a day if is not configured with update from browser enabled but in this case it do his job on your request.
Another thing related with this are some option, xml enabled for example, which increase server loading.
I don't see any reason to disable it, but this is my opinion, :)

about second part of the post, I don't try other variants because I use awstat only to check if everything is normal and row logs for details, :)
I process row logs with tools designed by me just because I don't find any resonable option for what I need.
