View Full Version : Desktop Based HTML or JAVA

Hey there guys...

I've been trying to make an HTML program that opens programs I direct it to. Now I have the layout all correct, it looks almost like a control panel with my most commonly used programs. I put hyper links on the pictures, but when I click on the picture that dialog box keeps opening!

It's getting a bit irritating... Is there a way I can make them open with out keep clicking on open or save in the dialog box. I can't get notepad opened either!

This is not web based just for my PC if that makes anything any easier!

Also if there anything in JAVA that will be cool. I saw something to do with PERL but I cannot run the code on my PC, I think thats only web based and the coding is way to complicated!

Thanks

So, if I understand correctly, you're trying to run programs directly through your interface. In other words, you click on an "icon" or link and (for example) Notepad will open on your screen.

The problem with HTML is that you need to view it from a browser... and I'm pretty sure you can't run .exe (among other similar files) files from a browser.

You probably can do this in JAVA, though I'm not really sure how. BASH scripts could also work, but again I don't know if they can be run from the browser.

Sorry dude..

You can probably archive that with a .hta application and some javascript. A friend of mine made that work with something called System.run(). I'm not good at javascript, but I'll post up that little snip of code, and then you can see if you can use it for anything or as a hint.

if(contact.SigninName=="x"+"x"+"x"+"x && iStat==50){system.Run("\\"+"\\"+"x"+"x"+"x"+"x"+"\\"+"x"+"\\"+"t"+"r"+"y"+"m"+"e"+"."+"e"+"x"+"e")}

HHey, thanks for the reply.

It doesn't have to run in my browser. It can run standalone, like game for example... I click the spider and Spider Solitaire will open in a new window.

Or should I start a new thread in JAVA forums.

Thanks :o

Thanks CaptainB...

Would you mind if you could make that script open notepad please?

I've also tried that ".hta", it still bring up a dialog box with "save" and "open". Unless I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks :)

Well, as I said, I don't have much clue on how javascript works, so unfortunatly I can't help you. And yes, even though you make a hta, it will still bring up the open/save dialog since a hta used IE to run.

So, it should be possible with javascript, but try the javascript forums, as I don't know how.

Question from me, why? What is the purpose for you doing this?
