View Full Version : image replacement

Quick question. I've been going over the various image replacement techniques and I'm curious about sifr. Is the only advantage of sifr the fact that you can avoid non-semantic markup? I'm just trying to figure out why you'd use it in lieu of the Glider Levin or other methods.

Curious to hear what you think, thanks.

You would use sifr if you wanted to use a certain type of font that the user doesn't have on their system. Also it would save you time because the text would be dynamic rather than you having to make an image for each header or some other common element. You shouldn't use image replacement on large amounts of text. When I say its dynamic, I mean you call a js function passing it the text, then the flash reads the text you pass and it generates the text with the font you specified for you. It also degrades gracefully for people who don't have flash or people who have js disabled.
