I have seen many snippets that check an email domain for it's validity but is there any way to check if the user provided exists on the domain provided???
thank you in advance

Something like this will check to see if the email address exists

thank you I've tryed that but the fsocket function can't connect to any of the yahoo mx servers to check the mail
(I am trying to check my yahoo mail)
I have tried telneting into them manually and I get the same error "A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond" I also tried pinging the mx servers and telneting to their ip addresses but also no luck
can you tell me what might be wrong or an alternate way of doing this?

Why not just send the user a confirmation code that has to be activated so you know their e-mail is valid? You could try checking each e-mail account to see if it exists, but it's a waste of resources, and I wouldn't be surprised if most mail servers blocked that functionality to begin with.
