Monitor Problem

I just got a different monitor for my spare desktop computer. It works great until Windows gets done loading then the screen goes blank. This happened to me once before and I was told what I needed to do to fix the problem and then the monitor worked great, but I can't remember what is was I did or how I did it. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Which version of windows is this? It sounds like the problem is that the video settings like resolution, etc. aren't compatible with the new monitor. In NT-based versions of Windows (like XP and 2000) you can use the VGA mode from the startup menu to get around this. You can get to that menu by pressing F8 before Windows begins to boot.
