I can't get windows to load normally. It will load in safe mode but just hangs after displaying the splash screen if I try normal mode.

I formatted the hard drive last night and windows was working perfectly, today it wouldn't even load. I have just re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed windows and it keeps hanging still.

Also, no one tell me to get another OS. I can't afford one and none other than 95 and 98 will run on a 200mhz system with only 64mb of ram.

Wow, that sounds like a big problem, almost the same problem I had.

Check your ram, make sure it's not a problem with that. (unlikely)

Now, since you can get in safe mode, check what applications are loading first. If you computer is not getting near that part, you might want to take your computer apart, clean off some dust, and put it back togehter, see if that does anything...

The last part that I think the problem is, is with your hard disk, it sounds like a weird error. Check what programs you installed after windows, and if that's not it, do some hdd diagnostics.

Running diagnostics at the moment, I don't think it is any programs that are causing the problems because I re-formatted and couldn't even load windows so no programs (apart from win) have been installed.

As for dust, there is a little but the case isn't even on the computer at the moment because the format and reloading of windows is occouring on a previous slave which was bigger than the master by a lot...I cleaned it last night when I was switching the 2 drives around.

Hum...
It's a really odd case. What about power inssues? Anything like that occur to you?

Nope.

I just re-formatted/partitioned and installed windows yet again. It is now working fine. :)

Now all I have to do is spend hours downloading the updates on a 56k. :(

Can't wait until I get 1.5mbps adsl.

Looks like I won't be treating myself to those upgreades yet, windows has stuffed up again. Same problem, it just won't load.

Well, I've got it working again. For how long I don't know though.:)

Not sure what the problem was but it seems to be fixed now. I've started up and shut down a few times to make sure and installed office 2000, SQL server and PWS and restarted after each one was installed and it works fine. :D

PWS on Windows 98?

Hum...

You should either upgrade to windows 2000, or not save any files on that computer that you care about.

IIS 4.0 is a very buggy IIS version.

I have never had any problems with it.

I don't mean System bugs, but if anyone wanted to send you a virus, or a worm through IIS 4.0, it's a good chance it could get through (depending on what patches and services you have installed)

Just don't let anyone find out your ip! Muhahaha ;)

It is pretty strange for an error... well expect no less from Win98. Me is is somewhat better, and I think it takes less resources too.... you can try upgrading to that if 98 keeps messing you about.

Me is still very buggy unless you get the most recent patches.

Do you run Windows 98SE? Maybe you should, if you don't.
