I have a site built in ASP.NET that gives you the ability to upload mp3 tracks as well as download them. The server is Windows 2003 and runs IIS 6.0. I also have an online streaming player in Flash. Now for the most part it has been working. But I recently experienced some weird issues with a couple of tracks.

I am able to upload them without any issues. I can also stream them in my player without any issue. The issue comes up when downloading the tracks through an ASPX page I have setup. Once I download them I cannot play them in Windows Media or Real Player. The error I get is:

The file you are attempting to play has an extension(.mp3) that does not match the file format.

The weird thing is, when I try playing the same mp3 file in Winamp. It plays perfectly. Also, when I go to the server's folder(where I have the mp3s uploaded) and play the tracks with Windows Media Player, there is no issue! And it only happens for a few tracks. I also tried using a utility called QuestionMan to compare the MP3 files(Dowloaded version and server version) and the only difference I noticed was the aspect ratio which was set to 13% for the server version and about 9,000,000% for the downloaded version. What could have changed it? Do I have to change some IIS settings?

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Any ideas to likely causes? I am at the moment tearing my hair out over this  .Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advancea.

I've come across that on several of my MP3s. Try renaming the extension to .wma - I think sometimes they're recorded in wma, but are later renamed to mp3 for some reason.
