Anybody please clear me with what is ripping a Cd. As far as i know it is converting ths audio songs of a CD into a format compatible to be played in PC. Is it really so?? Please correct me if i am wrong . Thank you in advance

Yes you are correct though if you want to have them rip as mp3 format, you will need the mp3 codec. This will have to be downloaded separately as Windows Media Player doesn't let you rip to mp3 format unless you have the correct codec installed. It will let you rip to wma however which is usually sufficient for most windows users unless you were wanting to make a copy of the cd.

If you have iTunes you can use it to automatically convert your audio. If you want them in mp3, you can open up the cd by right clicking on it in my computer and clicking open. Then you can copy the files onto your hard drive. At this point, you will need an audio converter. I recommend you download Audacity (freeware), which has an mp3 plugin and allows for batch conversion.
