I just started a new website with this doc type - <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

is the right one to use if i want to really get to grips with w3c standards. i used to use transistional but i want to build in strict.

Yeah that will work. You can go to XHTML 1.1 if you want. But XHTML 1.0 strict will be plenty strict.

Interesting. I use XHTML 1.0 Strict. I didn't realize there was a 1.1

I tried to research it some but what is the biggest difference between Strict 1.0 and 1.1

Probably the biggest difference is that XHTML 1.1 must be served as XHTML and so will not work with Internet Explorer 8 or earlier.
