I am having trouble with a border of a table cell using styles. I have developed http://www.catholicloyalty.com. as you can see on the home page, the menu at the top, the left button labeled "Member Join" has a white background and is supposed to have a blue border. This is working in Firefox, but not IE. Here is my code for that TD.

<td width="137" style="background-color:#FFFFFF; border-style:solid;border-width:1px;border-color:#3F406E;">
<strong><a href="http://www.catholicloyalty.com/vis_login.php"><font color="#3F406E">Member Join</font></a></strong>
</td>

I have tried it so many different ways, but I cannot get it to work in IE, any ideas?

TIA,

- Kevin

background-color:#FFFFFF

That's telling it to have a white background. Thus why your background is white. Change the color hex code to the blue color.

The problem is not the background but the missing border.

The problem lies in the border-collapse:collapse for table.NewNav in your style sheet. Remove this and your border appears... but the spacing is then wrong.

I think that is the basis of a solution... or you could re-engineer the menu using one of the excellent CSS-only multi-levels menus at http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/.

You are right, that fixed the problem, but also made the spacing worse. I have tried so many CSS menus I cannot even count. I did not build this site, but was hired to re-engineering it to load faster. The home page used to be over 500k!!! The person who designed this site used Spry which was ridiculous in file size, so they are happy with the new menu.

I need to have a menu that obviously looks just like the one on my site. Here are my requirements from the client:

I have to be able to make different buttons different colors without using images.
It has to have a white border (one pixel preferred)
I have to be able to control the widths of each button and dropdown
Goes without saying, but must be compatible with most modern browsers.
