When I installed a AzTech DSL500U DSL Modem my ADSL ISP gave me, it does not work in Win98SE. It just reads : MULTLANG: Device not present! A dialer was not created which makes me unable to connect to the Internet.

My friend wants me to help him ask why is there a shutdown lag whenever he wants to shutdown on Windows 98 Second Edition. His modem is a Efficient Networks SpeedStream 4060 USB.

Both of our Computer specifications:
Intel Pentium 3 Processor 800EB MHz
ASUS CUSL2-C Motherboard (Intel 815EP chipset)
TwinMOS 256MB PC133 SDRAM
Maxtor Quantum Fireball Plus AS 20.5GB
Windows 98 Second Edition
Singnet Broadband 512KBPS (Internet Service Provider)

Is your DSL modem a usb??? If so, go to www.microsoft.com and download any updated usb drivers...

As for the long shutdown, most likely he is shutting down applications that are connected via the internet, sometimes closing these pipes takes time... Try cleaning out the startup (on the start menu) and Run key (in the registry, \\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run) of unused programs... Be careful with the registry key (I would personally make a backup copy of the key by exporting it out and remove each item one by one to see which one causes the slowdown)
