View Full Version : The "CF Helpful Member" award nominations! (retired)

Welcome to the new "CF Helpful Member" award nominations thread! Please use it to nominate a helpful member with which you've personally received great help from based on the time period indicated below, and would like to point out. Here are the glory details:

Helpful member nomination period:
Oct 15th 07' to Jan 15th, 08'

Instructions:
Reply to this thread with the member name(s) you wish to acknowledge. You can nominate multiple members throughout the period indicated above, but cannot nominate the same member more than once.

Rules:
1) Votes "canvassing" is now no longer allowed. Please do not use your sig or via any other means on the forums to ask people to vote/ nominate you. This is to create an even playing ground for all members. If you find a member in violation of this rule, please pm me (http://www.codingforums.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) so I can take care of it.

2) For members who've been nominated, please do not post "thank you's" in this thread. Only members nominating someone else should post here to cast their votes.

How the winner is determined:
The winner is selected based on the number of votes he/she has received, plus the following three factors:

1) The top 3 "Most Thanked" members for the same period will each receive an additional 4, 4, and 5 votes added to his total. Note that this is different than the Top 3 Most Thanked members of all time as seen on the following page (http://www.codingforums.com/misc.php?do=cybstats); it's limited to just the nominations time period.

2) If a moderator votes for someone, his vote is counted twice. For example, if Liorean nominates AeroSpace, that's 2 votes added towards AeroSpace's total.

3) A member can only win once within a 1 year period. For example, if AeroSpace is the winner of this round of the "CF Helpful Member" award, he will not be eligible to win again until Oct 15th, 08'. During this time, if he's selected as the winner again, the second place winner will be crowned instead, with the same rules applying to that winner.

The prize:
A helpful member badge and a prize mailed to him/her. It will be different each time, but probably something in the range of $30 dollars. And a hug!

Questions, suggestions, please post in the feed back thread (http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?t=125313).

Start voting!

I'd like to nominate vtjustinb (http://codingforums.com/member.php?u=55047). He's a newcomer here and has already left several thoughtful and detailed posts, including one good enough to make it to the HTML/CSS FAQ thread (http://codingforums.com/showthread.php?t=35014).

I would like to nominate vtjustinb. There were many occasions were no one else could tell me what to do and he did. Plus my father went to Virginia Tech

Sorry to make you disappointed, George, but my nomination won't go to Aero this time.

My nomination goes to Trinithis, he's relatively new but seems to be a really helpful guy, over in the JS forums.

At this point I'm going to vote for Arbitrator because he knows everything! There are a number of posts I have seen where not only describes the issue, but references it at all stages and gives plenty of help towards the solution to the problem. Other than Aero I can safely say I've learnt most of the information here from him!

*cheers*

I vote for Inigoesdr for highly professional work and very quick coding. Almost all of his scripts are correct the first try.

I also vote for mlseim who is excellent at making a new theme/scheme for websites. He is very professional also.

That would be here as well. You're not limited to nominating just senior members.

I have to vote for VIPStephan and AeroSpace_Eng both of whom have given me immense help. There are others of course, but too many to remember.

I really must nominate FishMonger in the Perl forum and would sugggest that you consider it with a value of at least 5 nominations :)

Concise, worthy and, above all, accurate advice and comments provided in a tolerant friendly manner. Gratitude is met with a simple 'glad I could help' response, which really is modesty 'personified'. His help often saves valuable resources for our health service psychiatric unit as often, I feel like that is where I may end up after so many head bangs of my desk.

Anyway, I'm sure you get the point. :)

Trinithis (http://www.codingforums.com/member.php?u=51385) has helped me out greatly with javascript arrays. I would still be stuck if it wasn't for their help.

If I'm not wrong I can nominate only one person so, Excavator is because it help me, indirectly, to solve one of my problem:

http://www.codingforums.com/showpost.php?p=646106&postcount=3

If I can nominate more then one, then you can add, Arbitrator, VipStephan, FishMonger and Philip M, the order is how I remember the threads, :).

best regards

I second that :) FishMonger has helped me learn perl for quite a while now...and he continually amazes me with his knowledge of cpan modules...

I also notice that the Perl/CGI (http://www.codingforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5) forum has no moderator....I think he is the right person for that as well (ofcourse only if he doesn't mind the extra work that it may involve) so, I also vote that FishMonger be made moderator of the Perl/CGI (http://www.codingforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5) forum

Considering the thread specifically said "member who has helped you personally" and I don't make to many threads myself I'd have to go with Oesxyl.

He's really helpful to a lot of people in the PHP forum along with Inigoesdr and Aedrin. All three of these members are quite helpful...

Neh. I think he's too busy - if not at work, then here helping us.

I really have to nominate him for another reason as well. Instead of just giving the answer to a question, he kindly takes the time not only answer the question, very fully but, also, he points the way to the whys and wherefores so that the answer is clearly justified. This means that his answers really are a training guide and, I think, a real asset to Coding Forums.

OK I'll shut up now.

Well, today's the day I tally up things (Jan 15th) for the very first CF Helpful Member award since the new format came into place! I'll do that tonight, so there's still time to get in some last minute acknowledgements!

Ok, the votes have been tallied, and we have our very first Most Helpful member for 2008! Here are the top 3 based on the new system:

Excavator: 3 explicit votes, 4 implicit votes from being #2 Top Thanked= 7 votes

shyam: 1 explicit vote, 5 implicit votes from being #1 Top Thanked= 6 votes

VIPStephan: 1 explicit vote, 4 implicit votes from being #3 Top Thanked= 5 votes

Again, the "Top Thanked" stats is based on the contest run period, which is the last 3 months. FYI, here is the breakdown in terms of top members thanked for that period:

shyam 61
Excavator 54
VIPStephan 52
_Aerospace_En... 42
Philip M 39

Excavator, I've sent you a PM requesting more info. Thanks!
