Hey, I am making a site that offers free templates.
Do you think it is more important for me to have a .com domain or a descriptive domain.
I am asking this because i found some nice .ca/.org/.us/.biz/.net domains, but I can't find any decent .com names that include both the word "free" and template"
Also, do u think it is important I get a domain with "free" in it or is just having "templates" in the domain sufficent?

If you can't get a .com name that you want, I would say go with a .net - but - be careful of the name because the owner of the .com version may 'own' the name and therefore you're at risk for losing the use of it in your .net name.
It's best to try and make your domain name match your business name. A domain name like:
doesn't give anyone a clue about what the site is all about. So the answer to your question is it's better to have a descriptive name and a .net name is perfectly OK.

I don't think it will effect search engine ranking, and I wouldn't care if I was looking for free templates. Will you ask for link back? I generally don't bother with template sites that do, although perhaps linking back may generate more views, I don't know.

The collection of templates my site will offer were not made by me, and as a result most of them will require links back in the footer or whatever. Good news is I also found a bunch of template that don't require a link back, so my site will have both, and ill make a search option so u can select what u want to view :-)

It's my experience (I have quite a few domains) that people tend to be drawn towards .com more than any other. It stands to reason - it's been drilled into our psyche ever since the birth of the world wide web.
That said - if you're doing free templates, then I would say a .net would be quite apt, followed by a .biz
It also depends on how you plan to market this. It's only anecdotal experience, but I find that .com domains tend to get picked up by search engines much more, but if you plan to advertise using PPC campaigns then obviously that doesn't matter.

you may have to watch out if your offering others templates on your site, especially if your making advertisement money

Just make sure that you actually have the right to offer those templates to others - check the licence that usually comes with those that are allowed to be given away or sold. If it doesn't have a licence with it then it is probably personal use only and so can't be offered to others.

My 1 cent. get a domain with word template in it. However never register free-a-b-c-template-ur-site.com Doesn't matter if traffic comes to ur site or not, but you will never get even a single repeat visitor.

Thanks For the input guyz!
It was between: TottalyFreeTemplates.com, OnlyFreeTemplates.com, And TemplatesForFree.net.
I went with www.TemplatesForFree.net , Don't know if it was the right decision but it will do.
and I make sure all templates i offer are under http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/ which allows for distrobution.
