hi.

i'm trying to target an iframe within a dreamweaver document with a flash button and having some trouble.

basically, i made my navigation bar in flash and now am trying to load different things into the iframe of the dreamwever document i've embedded my navigation bar in.

i've searched high and low and all i can find is the code:

on (release) {
getURL("file name or web address", "iframe name");

}

unfortunately this doesn't work for me...it opens another browser window rather than loading into the iframe. i have tried all the variations of the above code (i.e. single quotes, no quotes, target=, underscores, etc.) and nothing seems to work.

PLEASE HELP...i'm desperate!

i'm using both flash and dreamweaver cs3 if that makes a difference.

thanks in advance.

aliya.

I certainly don't mean to come off as offensive, but can I persuade you to not use Flash for navigation or content? In doing so, you completely alienate the goals of accessibility. Besides, by not using Flash, it makes it a LOT easier to target an iframe. I can almost guarantee you that you can make your navigation just as pretty without using Flash

I don't like iframes either, but that's another rant :D

thanks for your reply. the only reason i am using flash (or was trying to) is that i don't know how to make the menu i want in html...if you can help that would be great.

my flash site is located at: http://www.laidbacklondon.com

i'm trying to convert it into an html site and want to keep the same look.

i'd really appreciate your help! thanks again.

Hi Aliya
I had the same issue as you do. There is no problem with your code, but you need to change the global security settings of your Adobe flash player.

Here is what you do
1st -- go to the adobe site:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html

2nd --choose the tab "Global Security Settings" and check the radio button "always allow"

3rd-- go to edit locations...click add a location: here you can pick a trusted location on your computer for your files/folders. I picked my desktop, but you can of course also make a trusted folder.

Make sure your dreamweaver folder/files is/are in your picked location(for me that was my desktop) then try and see if your flash button loads the I frame..it should work. You may have to change these settings for every browser you choose to test with.

I hope this works for you...it did for me anyway.

good luck :)
