I have 20Mb/s broadband at home. On the 2 PCs connected directly to the Netgear RangeMax 240 router everything is fine - obviously we're not always hitting that top speed but who is? But on my laptop I'm getting < 1Mb/s.

I used to use a netgear usb wireless adapter but I kept breaking them so I tried again with my internal card (Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG) and it kept wiping out the connection for everyone. We updated the router's firmware and all was well again but now I'm getting really slow speeds. The software is saying 'connected at 54 Mb/s - signal strength: excellent'.

I don't know where the problem is - my network card or the router? The router I got was highly recommended (and certainly not cheap)

I wish I could get 20mbps broadband.....

Anyway, after the firmware update, its only the laptop that has the problem now? I have similar problems with my parents' router and the internet connection dying for everyone. Are you using the latest intel driver as well? That has been a problem for me on more than one occasion.

I updated my drivers with no change, gave it a reboot and I'm at least getting 6Mb/s now. Don't know if it was the new drivers or the reboot but at least I'm getting reasonable speeds now.
